During the winter months activities may be cancelled due to snow. Some sports leagues utilize school facilities which often remain closed if school is cancelled that day. However, some schools allow us to play as long as the parking lot is cleared. Other facilities are always open, and we will only cancel if overall conditions are too problematic. We will usually not cancel in advance based on a forecast of heavy snow, and wait until it actually starts accumulating. Similarly, if it is snowing in the morning or early afternoon, but is supposed to stop we will wait until 4 or 5pm to see if we can play. We will always make an effort to give you a few hours notice, but that may not always be possible.
Cancellations will be posted here and/or to the BSSC phone cancellation line at 617-789-4070, ext. 300.
For non-sporting events, the confirmation which you received at the time of registration may also list a different phone number for you to call.
For Outdoor activities - Cancellations depend upon the playability of a field, not whether it is raining. Decisions are usually made after 4pm on weekdays and 2-3 hours in advance on weekends. Conditions & weather can change, so updates are made as necessary and we suggest you check again before heading out to your activity. In general, Softball games are not cancelled until fields become unplayable. Soccer games may be cancelled if damage will be done to the field by playing on it. Kickball & Volleyball are usually cancelled if the grass is wet. Games scheduled for synthetic grass fields are usually never cancelled unless there is thunder & lightning. BSSC will do it's best to give you as much notice as possible and try to avoid you from having to get all the way to your activitiy only to have it cancelled, however there are many times when fields are not deemed unplayable until just prior to game time.
